Wow, Starfleet is getting pretty far now. We're having discussions about how best to get the word out and let more people know. So far we have a forum, two in fact.

federationoutreach.boards.net/ this is the forum for the social aspect of Starfleet, working on creating the peaceful and equal world envisioned by Gene Roddenberry.
we now have a facebook page as well, I can't post a link because I'm at school and can only access fb from my mobile, but if you search 'the starfleet initiative' it should be there, however be warned that there's next to nothing on there, I haven't had much time or access to make many changes, if any.
We are also working on uniforms (we'll keep the colour coding), including designs, there will be no gender assigned anything, so if you're a girl and want to wear pants, that's fine. If you're a boy and you want to wear a dress, that's fine too. If you're neither then go ahead and wear whichever you want. There will be shorts to wear under the dresses. We've been looking at a few designs and it's a possibility that for anyone working with their hands, ie, engineering, you will most likely be wearing a jumpsuit not unlike the TNG ones, to avoid mishaps such as loose clothes catching, and will be made of the most fireproof material we can get our hands on. The boots are something we're keeping as well, although looking at alternative, practical designs. Our insignia will have to be different, (copyright is a bitch, am I right?), but we'll be keeping the whole *different symbol for different divisions*. And following the 2009 idea of it being a pin-on rather than embroidered.
Still, most of this are works in progress, and we are all discussing this as often as we can. I would love it if you could sign up to our forum.

Alright, well I run about 5 blogs on Tumblr 3 of which are Star Trek RP blogs, and I kept seeing all these posts about people saying "we should all just band together and make Starfleet ourselves!" well, I figured why not. Waiting around for someone else to do it will get us nowhere, so I'm doing it myself. This will be a long, hard process, but we'll get there. As Interstellar travel has yet to exist, I propose that we start off as a non-profit organization based mainly on studies and research of Space as far as we can. Basically, be a part of NASA.
There is another pitch, Federation Outreach. It will be a stem off of the "Starfleet Initiative" as my followers call it, focusing more on the social side of things. Clubs, groups and whatnot in communities working on eradicating discrimination and gaining equality in hopes of establishing the harmonic future that Gene Roddenberry himself envisioned.

On other more personal notes, after watching a short video, I have been inspired to start writing a story of my own. Completely original, and so I claim all rights to the characters.

Warp Speed Calculations

Okay, so I started watching the newer Star Trek movies, and now I'm beginning to be interested in how the Warp function works. In my Studies of Society and Environment class, I was supposed to be making a brochure for the United Nations, but that was broring so instead I did something else. Math. And Physics. By choice. Here I have typed up my calculations on the speed of the different Warp Travel Levels.
The speed of light is exactly 1079252850 km/h,
1079252850 = c
Warp 1: c
Warp 2: 10.08 x c = 10 878 868 728 km/h
Warp 3: 38.90 x c = 41 982 935 865 km/h
Warp 4: 101.6 x c = 109 652 089 560 km/h
Warp 5: 213.74 x c = 230 679 504 159 km/h
Warp 6: 392.5 x c = 423 606 743 625 km/h
Warp 7: 656.16 x c = 708 162 550 056 km/h
Warp 8: 1024.31 x c = 1.1054895e + 12 **
Warp 9: 1516.42 x c = 1.6366006e + 12 ***
**1.1054895e + 12 = 1 150 489 486 783.5 km/h
***1.6366006e + 12 = 1 636 606 067 970 km/h
Warp one is the speed of light, and anything past that is breaking the light barrier, they are travelling faster than light. Using this we can figure out how long they would have to warp to make it from Earth to the Sun. Let's say they were going their normal Warp Speed, 5.
Time = Distance / Speed
Time = 149 600 000 / 230 679 504 159 = 0.0006485188207136
Now to get that from hours to seconds.
0.0006485188207136 x 60
0.038911129242816 x 60
It would take them 2.33466775456896 seconds to warp to the sun.
I also have my theories on how the warp itself works. The Warp core contracts, or compresses the space in front of it, and expanding it behind. This, instead of trying to move the shit itself faster than light which is impossible, moves the space-time around it.

Advice for a name?

I'm thinking on making a Homunculus!Al tumblr account, but he doesn't fit any of the sins. He isn't really envious of anyone, he doesn't lust after anyone, he isn't gluttonous, he isn't lazy, he isn't prideful, he rarely gets angry, and he isn't greedy! I really have no idea. Anything would be great. but I'll have to think it through and consider everything, to decide.
